Flamingos in the Mist

Photographed in the Rift Valley

  © Karl Lehmann

#C28-20

Dawn mist rises from hot springs in the Rift Valley of Kenya, creating a primeval atmosphere.

Flamingos, like baleen whales, are filter feeders - a way of life unusual among the vertebrates. Two species gather by the millions in the soda lakes of Africa’s Rift Valley to extract plankton from the alkaline waters; three others inhabit the Americas. The birds in this photograph are Lesser Flamingos, Phoenicopterus minor.

This photograph is available as a 16x24" signed print, archivally mounted and matted or archivally framed in black metal.
